A Site With RC Racing History

Steam Mills is a special location for our club. The recreation ground was home to the Forest of Dean RC Car Club’s original track back in the early 1990s.

In 2023, club members rediscovered the remains of the old circuit and began working with Cinderford Town Council to bring RC racing back to the site. The revived circuit opened in summer 2025, giving the area a new chapter in its RC racing history.

While the current works mean a pause for outdoor racing, we hope to see a basic off-road track return once they are complete.

Location & Directions

The site is at the rear of Steam Mills Recreation Ground in Cinderford, Gloucestershire.

Please note: the site is off-grid and located within a public recreation area. When the venue is available for club use, please respect other users of the recreation ground.

Access & Parking

When club activities are running at Steam Mills, there is parking alongside the track. Drivers are asked to park sensibly and as close to the fence as possible.

On entering the recreation ground, do not drive across the football pitch. Follow the access route around the right-hand side instead.

These directions are provided for future visits when the site is open for RC activities. The track is currently closed.

Looking Ahead

Alongside the plans for a basic off-road track to return to Steam Mills after the current works, the club is also exploring the possibility of a national-sized off-road venue at Forest Oak Farm, alongside our indoor facility.

This is a longer-term ambition that would require significant work, and it is not yet a confirmed or completed facility. We will share further information when plans develop.
