Tip: Watch a race before buying a car! Chat with our committee to pick the right class and avoid spending on the wrong setup.
🔧 What Happens on a Race Night
Track Setup
- Carpet rolled toward the stage, barriers positioned (Purple = outer, Orange = inner)
- After setup, you can prepare your table/pit area (chairs provided; limited “handout” tables available)
Qualifying & Finals
- Qualifying heats: 4–5 minutes, racing the clock, not the other drivers – You go off in car number order (as defined on the heat listings). The computer will “beep” as you cross the timing loop. A high pitched beep means you’re on to improve, a low pitched beep means you’re slower than your previous best heat time.
- Marshalling: Hi Vis vests on! Race then marshal — assist cars safely, stay alert, no phones. Watch the track in front of you, if a car crashes then place them back in the area they crashed. Only enter the track if there is a clear gap for you. It is not your fault the driver has crashed!
- Finals: 5 minutes, seeded by Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) – Grid start, a 10s countdown and then a fast “warble” signifies the start. Remember to give way to faster cars (going wide on a corner is best).
Timing
- Electronic timing via transponders
- Loan units available; MRT transponders available via club group buys
Pack Down
- Carpet & barriers → under stage (right-hand side)
- Chairs & other items → left-hand side
💡 Top Tips for Newcomers
- Arrive early, observe a few heats, and ask questions
- Focus on learning the track and having fun, not just speed
- Keep your gear organised on your pit table
- Respect track etiquette: move offline when lapped, marshal responsibly
